Creativity Industry
Creativity Commercialization Industry
iCubis defines this industry as as greater grouping of business that works in the realm of any creativity development activity that has a basis in generating new business and revenues from the creativity.  We also do not limit the scope of what is considered creativity though we do generally break everything into three major categories: invention, literature & the arts:

  • Invention > science & technology, R&D, innovation, business development, product development, etc.
  • Literature > entertainment & education writing, story & threater/movie/program development, etc.
  • The Arts > music, 2D & 3D artwork, craftsmenship products and crafts, etc.

Today you have very few options to choose from to further develop and promote your concept and yourself. One must be very wary and untrusting when approaching most of the people, agencies and web sites that are purportedly offering "help." The web is filled with persons and groups who are ready to profit from or otherwise pounce on you, your idea, and your enthusiasm. We will not tell you that everyone is promoting a scam, but we have seen little evidence of unbiased, value added services like those being developed by the iCubis team.  It is reported that scams annually take +$300 Million from enthusiastic inventors alone.

Below you'll find a brief overview of the industry as we see it -- call it our iCubis Reality 101 class. This is written for the creator audience vs. those of you on the other side of the industry. Our intention is to highlight various lessons that we have learned regarding selling ideas and creations -- most learned the hard way over years of frustration and failure. Some of these lessons are commonsense statements, but others are not so obvious to someone who has not worked within the industry before. Learn these lessons now before you take the first step toward pursuing your dream.

iCubis Reality 101 Lessons

We will try to educate you as much as we can about the industry as it exists today, and at the same time will attempt to show you how iCubis will make a huge difference in creating a much better industry with far more efficiencies.

iR101.01- This industry is very scammy- this is the first big thing you need to be aware of. The Federal Trade Commission knows this, the USPTO knows this, federal law has been enacted to help curb this reality, the media cautions about it suggesting that the fraud is in the range of $300 Million annually and we too want you to be fully aware of this- thus it's the first reality lesson we offer you.

iR101.02- The odds of success (OOS) in this industry are very very low. Success is a very subjective term in this industry. A good example is our creator who has a few products in the market now, but who will probably never receive more compensation than went into getting these products placed in the market. Does this make him successful or not? The definition aside- very few will ever get their idea pass the earliest steps- let alone get anywhere near the term success. To give you some perspective- we say that +99.9% of you will not be successful with your pursuit of your money making ideas.

iR101.03- Don't just pursue your dream for the money. If you ever even make it to the point where someone is handing you your first check, let alone break even for all the time and effort and expense, you will be one of the few. You should make the step forward for the education. Hopefully the experience will be fun too.

iR101.04- Don't do it alone. You will greatly increase your OOS if your partner or significant other is beside or behind you with your pursuit. If you cannot get this support then you will be fighting multiple battles moving forward. The next best partner is a friend with a common interest in seeing the idea succeed. You must have someone in this world on your side to move forward. If you cannot get anyone on your side then we suggest you simply post your idea on iCubis and wait to see if someone finds it and comes to you.

iR101.05- +99.9% of ideas should never be seriously pursued. While every idea should be given a chance, most should never go further than the zero cost ($0) market research stage. Most ideas have already been thought of and investigated to a stage where they have been abandoned. Now that you have the Internet there are no excuses for doing some very good initial market research. Do it first and you can even save yourself the cost of posting to iCubis.

iR101.06- Don't always trust what you read or hear. If something seems too good to be true- than it probably is not true. The industry is very tough and it generally takes a lot of time, money and effort to get anything done. Good and bad is also very subjective. What might be good for me can be bad for you. We don't even want you to implicitly trust everything you learn from iCubis. We are not the world's experts in every aspect of the industry. We are only one set of players in this industry with a very limited amount of experience in the realitive scheme of things. We will however promise to do our best to look at the big picture and will attempt to deliver the best advice for you- the creator.

iR101.07- Move forward very cautiously. After doing your research and determining that you will take your idea or creation to the next level, do so with great caution. Do not disclose anything to an industry professional without first getting an Non-disclosure Agreement (NDA) executed.

iR101.08- Assure the rest of your life is in order before entering this industry. Assuming you decide to further develop a concept, you really need to have the rest of your life in order. There is a tremendous amount of time and energy required to pursue a dream. In most cases you will need to spend a good sum of money too. You will be asking for trouble if your relationship(s) and/or financial situation are not strong and in good order. You really need a good clear head to undertake this added life challenge.

iR101.09- Pay particular close interest to the criticism. We creators often have blinders on when it comes to discussing and critiquing our creations. Try very hard to really listen to constructive feedback. Always assume a reaction from someone else is closer to reality than your own opinion. After all you are not the end customer- everyone else is.

iR101.10- You will need to take risks and you may need to sacrifice some of your creations. You will often need to make quick decisions and to trust someone or some process that you do not have a full understanding of. We all learn best by doing- not necessarily by first reading about the act. With this, you will want to test the waters before you jump in. We highly recommend that you have a handful of ideas to work with before you take any big steps toward developing that special one. Test the waters with these other projects. If something bad results then you still have your one great idea. If you don't have anything other than the one, then alter the one removing the very best aspects and move ahead with this lesser idea. If you do successfully move forward there will be plenty of opportunity to add the great aspects back in later.

iR101.11- Everyone in the industry is very busy- mostly too busy to give you much attention. Until you have made it big with something, you will always struggle to get industry people to give you much attention. This applies to people you hire and pay to do work for you, this applies to your agents and partners and this especially applies to your target audience whether presentation candidates or customers. You will need the patience of Grace to not pull all your hair out. You will encounter far more frustrating times than times where you are applauding someone. Our advice is to suck it up, to give thanks often- even if you would prefer to complain- and to keep quiet all other times.

iR101.12- Generally progress is made as slow as the tortoise. Generally because of iR101.11 progress forward occurs at a snails pace. You will continually need to remind people of what they promised to do for you. You will need to touch base often to stay within the radar. The squeaky wheel gets the grease and so too does the persistent creator and developer within this industry.

We will post more lessons- suggestions and opinions- about this industry as iCubis develops and others remind us of other important lessons. It's a very difficult industry to work in, but iCubis will- for the first time- offer a great alternative option. At a minimum- and eliminating most of the above worries and issues- a simple post to iCubis will get you in the game quickly, easily and with minimal risk. There is nothing comparable in the industry today, and hopefully iCubis will grow and flourish... and eventually become a leader in the industry.
